Conferences
Thursday, October 23rd and Friday October 24th are our goal setting conferences. If you haven't signed up yet, please call the school office at 503-359-4600. These conferences are for you, your child and teacher to meet, share goals and go over homework expectations and materials. We look forward to seeing you at the conference.

Language Arts
Last week we read books about characters with big dreams. We discussed how we all have big dreams and we can set them as goals and work to achieve them. The students wrote school goals for themselves. We made plans for achieving our goals. We painted pictures of ourselves working toward our goals.

Math
First graders found all of the two-part expressions equal to 9 and 10. They worked with a partner to organize and count a collection of objects totaling between 112 - 120 items. In second grade math, students practiced using pictographs and bar graphs to answer questions and completed a beginning of the year assessment. Second graders learned to express three-digit numbers in standard form (the number), word form, unit form (__ hundreds __ tens __ ones), and expanded form (____ + _____ + _____).

Out and Abouts Last week the Violet-Green Swallows and Barn Swallows spent Thursday afternoon in The Backyard Garden enjoying a Harvest Party (cutting flowers to make bouquets, planting starts and garlic, making veggie & fruit kabobs and picking ingredients, and making pesto, and playing a couple of active garden games) for half of our time. During the other hour of the afternoon we had a music lesson with McKenzie.

All-School Meeting On Friday the Violet-Green Swallows sang and signed the song Three Little Birds for the other classes.
