Before the break, Swallows read books about birds and wildlife habitats and discussed ways to attract wildlife to the Backyard Garden. On Thursday, we went to the garden to look at existing features that might entice wildlife to make their home there, decided on spots to install the bird houses we made, and played a game that taught how food and habitat issues might affect swallows. Students also designed and built bird feeders out of recycled materials. In writing, we continued to work on imaginative narratives. At the beginning of each writing period, we read a fictional story that students could use as a mentor text to get ideas to try in their own stories. In math, first graders worked on place value (tens and ones). They used place value to compare two quantities. They added to the ones digit to get to the next multiple of ten. First Graders may now complete assignments through Module 5 Lesson 11. Second graders practiced addition and subtraction and solving 2-step story problems involving addition and subtraction within 1,000. Second Grade students can complete any pages in their Module 4 homework books up through Lesson 4.
Updates and Reminders: There will be no All School Meeting on Friday, April 5th. Please make sure you send your child to school with a rain jacket, a water bottle and rain boots. We will be spending more time outside as the weather gets warmer. Weather is unpredictable so a jacket and boots keep everyone comfortable, and water bottles are important because children get thirsty at recess and during outings to the garden.
Volunteers needed! Please join us on an upcoming Out and About - email Erin, [email protected], if you are available to help.
