Swallows have been hard at work studying salmon, courage and changes that take place in the Fall. On November 3rd we visited the Tillamook Forest Center where students studied animal habitats, observed the Wilson River for suitable salmon habitat, and explored the center and fire tower. Students helped steward the Backyard Garden by preparing the garden beds for winter and talked to a salmon expert about the salmon eggs that we will be raising and releasing. Children are observing the eggs daily to notice changes and make predictions about when they will begin to hatch into alevin. Thank you to the Northwest Steelheaders, the group that has supplied the expertise, tank, chiller and eggs that make this hands-on project possible. In math first graders focused on solving addition equations with a missing addend. They figured out which tools and methods were most effective for helping them solve these problems. First Graders may now complete assignments through Module 2 Lesson 11. Second graders have been practicing representing the same number with different combinations of ones, tens and hundreds. They also practiced comparing numbers using >, < and =. Second Grade students can complete any pages in their Module 1 workbook up through the end of the book. Ms. Eva will be sending home new workbooks for Module 2. Please check your child's backpack mid-week.
