Swallows continued reading books about birds and wildlife habitats and discussed ways to attract wildlife to the Backyard Garden. On Thursday, we met Mike Conroy along the B Street Trail and he helped us put together the story of the natural history of the area. We also met up with McKenzie Peterson at the Library for a music class. At the end of each day we have been writing imaginative narrative stories. In math, first graders worked on adding and subtracting with one two-digit and one one-digit number. They used various strategies such as look at the ones place to make the next ten, and count on or count back by tens. First Graders may now complete assignments through Module 5 Lesson 16. Second graders practiced addition and subtraction and solving 2-step story problems involving addition and subtraction within 1,000. Second Grade students can complete any pages in their Module 4 homework books up through Lesson 9.

Please make sure you send your child to school with a rain jacket, a water bottle and rain boots (even when the weather report predicts no rain). We will be spending more time outside as the weather gets warmer. Weather is unpredictable so a jacket and boots keep everyone comfortable, and water bottles are important because children get thirsty at recess, P.E. and during outings to the garden.
