Last week we worked on writing short stories to use as a baseline assessment as we determine what our young writers can already do and what we will need to work on. We spent some time learning about personal goals. Students brainstormed different ideas for their own goals and then each child decided on one that they will commit to working on this school year. We will be sharing our goals with you during conferences and asking you to support us in achieving our goals. On Thursday we headed out to Gales Creek Campground to look at the habitat and study the creek. Students looked at the speed of the creek, the clarity of the water and searched for tiny creatures in the water. On our short hike in the woods the children worked in teams to create a shelter that they imagine a forest animal could live in. During math first graders worked on finding and organizing all the two-part expressions that equal 7, 8, 9 and 10, and finding the totals of doubles +1 facts. Second graders practiced representing numbers in standard form, expanded form, word form and in unit form.
