All of the salmon eggs have hatched and we have lots of alevin wiggling around in the fish tank! In writing students published poems about salmon. We read indigenous stories about gratitude, and students made personal connections by comparing the things talked about in the books to things they are thankful for.
In math first graders used related addition facts to subtract. First Graders may now complete assignments through Module 2 Lesson 18. Second graders learned the strategy of adding like units (adding ones, adding tens, then adding the sums together) with two-digit numbers. Second Grade students can complete any pages through Module 2 Lesson 1. The lessons in this module will include many strategies that will one day help students to be able to mentally add and subtract two-digit numbers. They tend to be challenging for students in the beginning and may be different from strategies you have learned. It is okay to tell your child that you don't understand the strategy, and teach them a strategy that you're comfortable with. Part of the point of this module is that students learn there is more than one way to solve a problem.
