Thursday, February 29th, 1-3: Swallow Boxes Building
Thursday, March 7, 1 - 3, Music Class and Garden Activities
Classroom News Last week Swallows read and discussed books about accomplished black Americans in celebration of Black History Month. We read about Mae Jamison, Janet Collins, Jackie Robinson, Harriet Tubman and Elijah Pierce. In writing, they gathered materials for "Story Bags." They included things like toy animals, people, trees, ponds, fences, aliens and rocks. They are using these to act out stories which they will then write. On Thursday we met with Kevin from Woodfold Manufacturing to hear about a problem they've been having with swallows nesting in places where they aren't likely to survive. Students learned about swallows and how they build nests and started to come up with a plan for saving them.
In math, first graders continued working on measurement. We compared objects, measured them in centimeter cubes and ordered them from shortest to tallest. First Graders may now complete assignments through Module 4 Lesson 6. Second graders practiced partitioning congruent shapes into halves, thirds and quarters, and discussed how the number of equal parts a shape is divided into affects the size of each part. Second Grade students can complete any pages in their homework books through Module 3 Lesson 12.
Reminders: Please have your child keep a full change of clothes in their backpack. It is often necessary, especially during this cold, wet weather!
