Class News: Last week we continued working on writing fictional narrative stories. We learned about story maps and how to use them. Some students chose to organize their ideas on a story map to help guide their writing. We continued reading stories about notable black Americans to celebrate Black History Month. We began reading Frog & Toad books by Arnold Lobel to prepare for our visit to the theater. On Thursday we began building swallow nesting boxes to be used near the Backyard Garden. We visited the Backyard to work on building models of swallow nests and to play leaping games, in celebration of Leap Year. Because the students did such a great job spreading kindness to our community a couple of weeks ago, we were inspired to share some kindness with them, so we ended the week with pancakes. In math, first graders continued working on measurement. We compared objects, measured them in centimeter cubes and rods (a set of 10 connected centimeter cubes) and figured out the difference between the measurements. First Graders may now complete assignments through Module 4 Lesson 12. Second graders practiced learning how to tell time on an analog clock and to differentiate between a.m. and p.m. Second Grade students can complete any pages in their homework books through Module 3 Lesson 16.
Reminders: Please have your child keep a full change of clothes in their backpack. It is often necessary, especially during this cold, wet weather!
