We had a busy week before break. We read books about cultural traditions involving food, and we read stories about salmon. On Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons we worked at craft stations making: cards, snowflakes and clay sculptures. On Thursday we took our young salmon (now fry stage) to Rood Bridge Park to release them into the Tualatin River, beginning their journey to the Pacific Ocean. During our release outing the students shared the salmon poems that they'd written, released their fry into the river with some words of encouragement, sang, had a picnic lunch and played a very active salmon game! The Barn Swallows sang and performed the song, 'Run, Salmon Run,' at the All-School Meeting on Friday. We ended the week with 'Pajama Day!' In math first graders worked to solve addition equations by regrouping addends to make one of the addends 10. First Graders may now complete assignments through Module 3 Lesson 8. Second graders practiced strategies for solving three-digit addition and subtraction problems. Second Grade students can complete any pages through Module 2 Lesson 15.
Reminder: Please have your child keep a full change of clothes in their backpack. It is often necessary, especially during this wet weather!
