News: We have really been enjoying getting to know each other and bonding in our classes and as a level. We began the school year with 'getting to know you' activities, read aloud stories with the theme of belonging, learning routines, completing reading assessments, becoming acquainted with the skills for learning, and painting self-portraits. Our Out & Abouts have included trips to The Backyard Garden (our school garden that is across the street), and sensory walks to the B Street Trail.
Reminders & Announcements: Please have your child leave all toys at home. A lost toy, jewelry, or item hanging off of a backpack can be a big distraction to a young learner. Send your child to school ready to learn and play outdoors. (Sturdy shoes or boots, layers, raincoats, and warm coats as the weather cools.) On October 6th at 9:00 we will be performing a song at the All School Meeting. The meeting is held in the auditorium of the District Office on Main Street. A Note from Our Out & About Teacher: Hello Level 1 families, My name is Erin Morgan, and I am the FGCS Experiential Education Teacher. That means that I'll be taking the Swallows on Out and Abouts every Thursday. I look forward to seeing many of you join our adventures sometime this year! Please help your Swallow come prepared Thursdays with good walking shoes, appropriate layers (sun hat? rain jacket?) and water bottles.
This fall, I would like to find 1-2 parents from each class that are willing to be regulars on our local trips - to the school garden or B Street trail, for example. This means that you are available most Thursdays between about 12:30-3:00, ready to join in rain or shine, and would feel comfortable to lead a guided station activity on some trips. Does this sound like you? If so, please fill out the district volunteer background check (required every year), and email me - e.morgan@fgcschool.org. I'll respond and let you know what weeks are needed.
Coming up, we would love 2 volunteers this Thursday 9/21 from 12:30-3 for a trip to the garden. Can't join regularly? Don't worry! We will have special all-day trips that require more support. Keep an eye on newsletters for volunteer requests. Thank you!
